I actually planned to cancel my Illumicrate subscription box but I kind of forget to. After finding out that Six of Crows, Nevernight, Holly Black’s Curseworkers series and Harry Potter will be featured, I couldn’t resist and ignored my guilty conscience. Fortunately.
The #12 theme is called Oh so criminal which made me smile and wonder what villains will be included in this box. Though this topic is quite often used in the latest book boxes I guess nobody can get enough of cheeky villains. The appearance of the announcing in the newsletter for the August theme already suggested what book will be included. Though it has been quite obvious I totally forgot about it and got startled when finally finding out. But lets start with the items first.
The first item is a bag with the label Villains are my Bag which has been designed by KDP Letters. The material is thick and the bag is capable of containing at least eight books.
The next item is one of my favorites which might be because it is inspired by the Harry Potter series: Sirius Snacks Coaster. The motive is soo lovely, isn’t it? Katie Abey Design designed it and she did so well! I love it! Though I am not using coasters all those book boxes are convincing me into getting them out every now and then.
The newsletter also revealed that a certain candle will be included in the box. I have to admit that I am a little bit disappointed concerning the looks and the scent: It smells like the fresh scent of a bathroom. It is one of my biggest bookish candles which I’ve received through a book box, unfortunately I don’t like it. I guess it will end up in our bathroom, haha. It is designed by Elven Wick Candles.
The Darkdawn Nail File is my favorite item of the box. I love the Nevernight-Chronicles! Funfact: I was looking for a new nail file the other day and couldn’t find one that I liked. This one totally will do it! The Shadowcat is gorgeous. Though I have to admit that I probably would have been happy with any item inspired by the Nevernight-Chronicles, haha. In case you are wondering why the Illumicrate team chose a nail file as an item refering to Nevernight, on the Spoilercard is says: Because nail files are basically weapons & can get you out of jail! It has been designed by Hey Atlas Creative.
I am not quite the person to wear jewelry which is why the included necklace is one of my least favorite items. Though the idea is really cute and lovely nerdy, I don’t have any use for it. The Antagonist/Protagonist Necklace is made by Down the Rabbithole.
I already found a lucky new owner for the next item: Jill was all to happy about the No Mourners No Funerals Lanyard which is designed by Fable and Black. Though the motive is cool and inspired by Six of Crows, I have no use for it.
The Easiest Lies Mirror will end up in my backpack, though it might be the third mirror I have received out of a book box. The Design is by Reverie and Ink. I am a little bit confused why the items of all those book boxes are always so much alike. There are so many options as to what you could transform into bookish merch.
The artwork though is wonderfully created! The Gotham Sirens Print shows Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. The paper is quite thick and will perfectly fit into our new home. The artprint gives a hint about the included book by the way. What are you doing with all those artprints you get out of book boxes? Mine are pinned at the wall in our corridor.
I have to pay my compliments about the extract of The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner. The cover looks astonishingly beautiful. I put it immediately on my wishlist. The content sounds promising. It will be released this year on September the 27th.
The imaged postcards are extra items which look really sweet and will also end up at my wall, haha. And now… lets get to the best part of this box! I am extremely excited about it.
When the Bat’s away, the Cat will play. It’s time to see how many lives this cat really has.
. . .

Title: Catwoman – Soulstealer | Author: Sarah J. Maas | Number of pages: 384 | Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers | ISBN: 9780399549694 |
I love Sarah J. Maas. She is one of my most favorite fantasy authors. Her writing style is so impressive and her world building is extremely accurate. I was so looking forward to this release! Though Wonder Woman has also been a book of the Illumicrate this year, I completely forgot about it and didn’t guess about Catwoman being the next book of the box. And in case you are wondering the cover is also available online! But the sprayed edges are exclusively made for this Illumicrate book box.
